Rock ‘n roll with Tailor

Rock ‘n roll with Tailor

We’re counting down the hours until The Real Concert this weekend and can’t wait to see Tailor live in action. We chat to her about recording in Texas, her album, Trust and how she plans to unwind after the show.

Tell us more about your recording experience in Austin, Texas.

Austin is a high energy, creative, youthful and inspiring city. When I got the go ahead to record my album in Austin I knew it was the right decision. The raw emotion, organic songwriting experience and beautifully produced album was all influenced by this cities vibe and energy. I worked with the best of the best and you can really hear the maturity on this record. Zak Loy (newest member of the band LIVE) who is the producer on this latest record of mine did an incredible job. He just ‘got’ the process and picked my brain and knew what kind of sound I wanted. I’m really proud of the work.

If you had to pick one track from Trust as your favourite, which one would it be?

That’s so difficult … I’m really not able to. There are songs that I enjoy to play live more then others but I won’t be able to choose an overall fave.

Which South African artist did you really enjoy collaborating with and why?

Too many to mention but if I would have to choose it would probably be the live performances I have done with Yoav and NAKHANE. Yoav is one of the most versatile artists that I have worked with. Both him and NAKHANE are unpredictable in the best way possible. They are thinkers and there is no limit to their talent or songwriting. They aren’t afraid to push boundaries and explore creatively.

Where, In Joburg, would we find you on a Saturday night?

If I am not playing a show I would be home, sleeping.

How do you relax and unwind after a show or a hectic week?

I go for a run, write or explore downtown thrift stores. Good coffee shops are my thing.

What are some of the other projects that you have coming up this year?

Some really great international touring dates coming soon and I’m constantly writing. Right now however, my biggest focus is TRUST PART 1. She is like my baby. Getting my record out there and touring it as much as I can is my main priority.

What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve ever been given?

Own what you know you are good at … that way no one can distract you from your dreams.
