An eye for design

As Design Joburg approaches, we took a closer look at some of our favourite collections, creations, and moments from four incredible leaders in décor and design.

  1. We can’t wait to see the two new prints that Nicole Levenberg of Aureum Design will be showcasing as part of the ‘Darlings’ feature at Design Joburg. If they’re anything like her ‘The Highveld’ print, we know we’ll be obsessed: an abstracted representation of the broad grassy plateaus that make up much of the South African interior, we love how beautiful the gold print looks when covering your scatter cushions and place mats. Order them from her website. Details: www.aureumdesign.com

  1. Nthabi Taukobong’s undeniable eye for style makes her, and Ditau Interiors, a highly sought after consultant when it comes to interior design – and it’s easy to see why. The simple monochrome details in these lounge inspirations set off the traditional African textures and colours, making it both chic and welcoming. Details: www.ditau.com

  1. The unexpected pops of colour and firm nods to traditional African design that are clearly evident in Mpho Vackier’s Afro-Midcentury collection make it one of our favourites. The Urban Native’s Thankdeka White and solid timber server is the perfect combination of beautiful and functional, and would make for a conversation piece in any home. Details: www.theurbanative.com

  1. David Krynauw is known for his for high-quality solid wood furniture and modular wooden structures, but our current favourites have to be those in his Joburg series. Inspired by the impact that the city’s splendid landscape has had on his mind, this King-sized bed is just one of the incredibly impressive pieces in the series. Order them from his Shopify website.
