Celebrate International Chardonnay Day

Celebrate International Chardonnay Day

We’re keen, keen Chardonnay drinkers, scoffing at those ABC-ers. So we’ll be going all out celebrating International Chardonnay Day, on Friday May 26. Here are a few of our favourites …

Tropical, citrus and guava flavours are in abundance on the nose and palate of Groote Post Unwooded Chardonnay 2016 … a vintage with a full and concentrated structure with very good ageing potential. Around R91.

If, like us, your prefer your Chardonnay wooded, you’ll like  Groote Post Kapokberg Chardonnay 2015 (Wooded) … this wine has an appealing golden straw colour and an enticing nose of toasted almonds with lashings of butter and zesty lime marmalade on the palate. Hugely elegant and creamy, you’ll find it for around R153.

Another gorgeous wooded choice is Neil Ellis Elgin Chardonnay 2015, part of the Neil Ellis Regional Range. The colour of pale lemon straw, with ripe apple, peach and biscuit notes on the nose, there’s a wonderful concentration of stone fruits. It has Neil Ellis’ trademark elegance and restraint. Around R115.

From the same estate, the Neil Ellis Whitehall Chardonnay 2015 recently received a 91 point rating from Tim Atkin in his South African Wine Report. Light golden green in colour, with very youthful lime and melon aromatics and gorgeous ripe citrus notes, this elegant Burgundian-style Chardonnay offers great texture, mouth-feel and freshness. An outstanding wine for a special occasion. Around  R225.
