Chowing down at 44 Stanley

Chowing down at 44 Stanley

Once you’ve shopped up a storm at 44 Stanley’s lush boutiques, you’ll no doubt be a little peckish… We’ve put together our favourite places to eat and drink at every time of day.

For breakfast – Salvation Café

Salvation Café is always included on lists of Joburg’s top breakfasts – and for good reason! Fresh ingredients, delicious recipes, and to-die-for coffee all make this an incredibly special spot, and there’s nowhere else we’d rather have the most important meal of the day! Order their signature Mexican sausage burrito, or the Caribbean sweet French toast. They’re open seven days a week, and also serve lunch.

For lunch – Vovo Telo

We’re all about singing the praises of Vovo Telo’s incredible freshly baked bread. Joburg’s flagship store, it’s the perfect place to rest your feet and grab some lunch, and there’s always so much to choose from. As well as freshly baked goods, they also make mouth-watering thin crust pizzas (we love the Caramelised pear, Coppa Ham and Brie option!) and delicious harvest boards featuring cheeses, fresh vegetables, and of course loads of their signature baguette slices. We’re hungry just thinking about it!

For coffee – Bean There Coffee Company

As South Africa’s first roaster of Certified Fairtrade organic African coffee, you know the team behind Bean There are serious about their java. We love getting to witness the roasting process first-hand on site, and you can enjoy the delicious end product paired with a slice of their fantastic cake. We’re obsessed!

For a drink – Stanley Beer Yard

When it comes to after work drinks or a chilled Sunday afternoon hangout, nobody beats Stanley Beer Yard. With countless different beers, wines and mescal on their menu, there really is something available for every taste, and with their large outdoor summer tables, and cosy indoor winter fireplaces, you’ll want to stick around long after you’ve finished that last sip. Feeling a little hungry? They also serve up some fantastic bar snacks – we love the Hot Smoked Wings.

For dinner – Il Giardino

With its stunning Italian décor, delicious menu and incredible vibe, Il Giardino might just be the most romantic restaurant in Joburg. If the weather is warm, grab a seat outside under the beautiful olive trees in the courtyard, or if it’s a bit chilly you’ll be seated at a table in the elegantly decorated indoor area, The Room. Each dish is lovingly made in true Italian style, and you really can’t go wrong no matter what you pick! We adore the Slow roast lamb shank if you’re looking for something hearty, or any of the Risottos. Delizioso!

For a cheeky treat – Chocoloza

If you need a little sugar to keep you going (and, let’s be honest, even if you don’t) do yourself a favour and make a pit-stop at Chocoloza. Here, decedent Belgian chocolates are handmade on-site, and with each one melting perfectly in your mouth, you’ll find it hard to stop at just one! Plus, they have the most incredible selection of hot chocolates for you to enjoy, too.
