Celeb personalities pay tribute to a special woman in their lives, this Women’s Month!

Every August we celebrate Women’s Month in South Africa, and more specifically Women’s Day – a public holiday that pays homage to the women of our nation … the mothers, the wives, the sisters and the daughters who fought tirelessly against the tyranny of the Apartheid government. We caught up with some of South Africa’s favourite celeb personalities and asked them which woman has inspired them & positively influenced their lives.

“As clichéd as it is I have to say my mother. If I had to describe her in one word it would be selfless. She is the epitome of what it means to give everything of yourself to others. And being pregnant myself makes me appreciate her so much more as I realised what she has sacrificed for me.” – Roxy Burger, TV Presenter & Celebrity Blogger

“Fatima Jakoet is such an inspiration to me, I met her last year during a radio interview for her charity fundraiser, and now consider her a friend. Fatima is a senior first officer at SA Airways, operating an Airbus 320. Through her foundation, Sakhikamva Foundation , she  mentors thousands of learners in coding robotics and aerospace. Fatima also started a bursary programme and has allowed 13 people to train as pilots. Fatima really inspired me, she the busiest person I know, yet she always makes time to give back, and always has time for any of her mentees and for her family and friends. What an incredible woman!” – Liezel Van Der Westhuizen, Radio Presenter & Celebrity Vlogger

“Juan-Ri, my wife – because she has always believed in me through the good and bad times. She is the foundation that keeps me steady.” – Franco Mostert, Professional Rugby Player

“Right now, the woman who most inspires me is my friend, Jennifer Glodik, who has just been named one of Forbes’s 30 under 30 and I have nothing but admiration for her. She really is testament to the fact that if you have a goal, you believe you can achieve that goal and you work diligently and consistently toward it, no matter what, it becomes yours.” – Deborah Lettner, Actress

“My late grandmother is one of my biggest inspirations – she personified strength, beauty and grace. Growing up we were very close and she always instilled in me that if I’m creative and passionate I can succeed in anything I put your mind to.” – Lindy Hibbard, Radio Personality

“There as so many women its hard to ever just say one. I’m surrounded by unbelievable women all the time. Right now, I’m incredibly inspired by South African and international Actress Terry Pheto, who is also a producer and director. Have never met her but hopefully one day our paths will cross. It’s hard for women in film but times are changing and it’s exciting.” – Anji Woodley, Actress

“A brave women that stands out is Malala Yousafzai. One young girls bravery and determination – made the whole world stand up and take notice, even if she would pay with her life. She fought for her right to be educated, in a country where women were supposed to be less than man! You don’t have to be of a certain age, colour or creed to stand up for your beliefs! When I find life a little tough, I remember this young woman and her bravery!” –  Romy Titus, Radio Personality

“I am fortunate to be surrounded by strong woman on a daily basis, especially my mom, who has been my rock from day one. My fiancee inspires me to be a better person and brings out the best in me.” – Steven Kitshoff, Professional Rugby Player

“The two women have have inspired me and continue to do so are my mother, Dimitra and my wife, Bailey. My mom has taught me selflessness and unconditional love and my wife inspires me everyday to be the best that I can by accepting me for who I am.” – DJ Sox (Socrates Georgiades)

“One of my ultimate women inspirations must be our former first lady, Winnie Mandela. She is a pioneer, a beacon of light and hope to many women in South Africa. After everything she has been through, she continue to inspire people all over the world.” – Francois Louw, Beauty & Image Specialist

“The women in my family are so inspiring I would have to say my Mom- Suzanne, my Grandma- Dorothy and my Aunt Julie are the ladies I look up to. These wonderful ladies have inspired me since day one and have influenced my decisions in life. They have taught me, guided me and supported me constantly in my life and I am this strong, independent woman today because of their influences and love.” – Elle Franco, TV Presenter
