Only the best grapes from the best blocks on Tokara’s premium vineyards on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain were handpicked and used for the just released Tokara Director’s Reserve Red 2013. A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet franc and Malbec, this exceptional wine is all dark cherries, raspberries and black currant, with a hint of herbal spice. Just 28 000 bottles were produced, and although it drinks well now, if you can force yourself to wait, it will benefit from aging until 2026. The winemaker suggests pairing this intense garnet coloured wine Veal Osso Bucco or grilled fillet steak served with red wine sauce, bone marrow, shallots and French fries. A huge treat. R400.
