Meet Phumza Tiya – Wonderbra Icon 2018

26-year-old Phumza Tiya is not only a part-time model and digital marketing freelancer, but she was selected as Wonderbra’s 2018 South African brand icon. Ambitious, open-minded, hardworking and a go-getter, Phumza loves positive people and fashion and says she is always searching for more in life.

We caught up with Phumza to find out more…

What does winning the title of Wonderbra Brand Icon 2018 mean to you?

It is such an honour to be selected as the 2018 Wonderbra icon and to me it means that I can now invest more into what I do, it has also boosted my confidence and I believe I will get exposed to new opportunities as I work with an amazing team.

Tell us a bit about your workout regime…

I honestly don’t have any workout plan nor a diet. I had since had a toned body from a young age. I do walk a lot though.

If you weren’t a model and personality, what else would you be doing?

I believe I would be doing a normal 8-5 at an office, working either as a creative in advertising or marketing.

What did you do for Mandela Day this year?

I helped at my friend’s NGO and donated sanitary pads to young girls who need them to stay in school. It’s a great project and something that I am passionate about.

What’s next for you in terms of your career?

I would love to work international just to explore and gain knowledge. I just love challenges, and I would love to be involved in more big campaigns like “Wonderbra Icon”.

What is your favourite clothing item right now and why?

Currently obsessed with 90s high waist hipster pants. They are not only trendy but also sophisticated and elegant.

If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

I wish I had met Mama Winnie Madikizela Mandela, I had always been struck by her grace. She was just a strong fearless woman and had always given young women hope to not only believe in themselves but to also go for more.

I just love how unapologetic she was when it comes to being a woman and other women social issues. I truly believe I could have learnt a lot from her more than what we read on the papers about her. She gave as twice as she received and that for me is a life lived.

Strawberry, Chocolate or Vanilla – and why?

Chocolate for sure, I love how it can make me feel happy.  I purely associate it with joy and love.

What book are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Sacred Contracts by Caroline Myss.
