Something Different event specialists launch in Jozi…

Well known events and wedding specialists Something Different recently wowed our socks off at a very unique event at the beautiful Park House of Events on 7 in Hyde Park. They artfully created unique spaces within the venue, and encouraged guests to get hands on and interactive with the amazing displays and creations.

Something Different has always been a front-runner in the field of décor, design and pulling together creative concepts, with big names behind them such as former Miss World, Rolene Strauss and corporates such as Dom Perignon, Investec and Chevron.

They adore conceptual designs and executions, and have a huge love for out-of-the-box creative thinking and an eye for exceptional detail, which was evident at the event.

In 2017, they also launched their custom-design décor business – Something Desired – providing clients with unique pieces that suit their style and space. Now, they are bringing their knowledge, experience and creativity to the city of gold with their Décor Exposé and Immersive event experience with the launch of Something Secret, delivering trend forecasting and decor inspiration with a twist.

“Something Secret was our brainchild for a unique event experience, introducing our offering and expertise to a handpicked, exclusive guest list. Our venue, The Park, House of Events on 7, was the perfect partnership for this exclusive event – they really assisted us in creating the perfect space.” Adds Kate Shepherd, founder and owner of Something Different.

They got so creative that we were really impressed, using the huge space available to create multiple décor looks for different personality types through a custom-made quiz and invite system that categorized the attendees into 4 different interior looks.

From Modern Minimalist, to Classy Creatures (that was us!!), Natural Souls and the Wild Child in all of us. Guests got to explore immersive experiences, quirky photo moments and premium installations all wrapped up with the final touch of the Something Different space.

There were future-telling croissants, to peep holes and a large inflatable swan as well as digging for cocktails, the experience gave guests both the chance to have a “digital photo moment” and tactile multi-sensory experience as well – we had a blast!

Kate and Nelia shared some awesome 2018/2019 décor trends and hints of their new décor range launching later this year.

Social trend – although, with events and social media it’s all about traction, posts and your digital footprint, they understand there is still a need for a tactile playground, needing all senses to be intrigued, from taste, to touch to interactive experiences.

Colours – they are seeing a move from the nudes, mustards and caramels we have all loved this season to even more earthy and richer tones such as rust, terracotta and sienna.

“Although neutrals will always be popular – especially soft apricots, dusky shades of rose and desert sage – we are loving a bright bolder look that will be emerging in time for summer with crisp shades of watermelon, mint and peach and a few more tones.” says Kate .

“You’ll have to wait and see our launching range of Something Desired décor pieces late October early November in time for Summer for more inspiration of these fun daring colour palettes.” she adds.

Disruption – Trends are moving away from following large corporations, organisations and consumerism, an anti-establishment and more individual authentic design trend. This means interiors are becoming more experimental and creative, expressive and radical.

Multi, multi-colour, multi-cultural, multi-use, multi-layered, multi-race, multi-faceted leading the way for innovative ideas, sustainable and eco sensitive touches and mostly truly unique and genuine reflections of design.

“The idea of Something Secret was to disrupt the norm of eventing practices and “launch” events – we hope we’ve surprised all our gorgeous guests.” adds Kate. And they were not wrong – we had a blast discovering the different area’s and ideas created, and look forward to seeing more form this dynamic duo.
