As you’d expect from the owner of the oh-so-stylish Country Living, Sandy McCrystal’s Bryanston home is something of a showpiece – comfortable, elegant and unbelievably tasteful.

‘I love interiors and the sense of home you can create,’ says Sandy McCrystal. She’s been in the retail décor business for more than 12 years and her keen interest in decorating means her home is a continual work in progress ... it’s Sandy’s favourite project.
Her husband Rudolph and children, daughter Caroline and son Christopher take this constantly changing landscape in their stride ... even when they discover their lounge has become a bedroom for a photoshoot – and it stays that way for two weeks.‘Ralph Lauren epitomises everything stylish about décor, he can do anything, and do it well. I love his ads, they inspire me,’ says Sandy. ‘When it comes to my own taste I’d have to say I swing! I like the African colonial look but I’m beginning to enjoy cleaner lines, although my heart is in the country ... I often get tired of a certain look.
This is my canvas and my palette, so my home is always changing around – my very best thing is just to potter at home but with the shop being so busy I just don’t have the time to do that any more. I bring furniture home from the shop and end up having to sell it to a customer who’s desperate for the piece, so there are often all these odd things out and funny gaps everywhere.
