Party gossip Mika Stefano tells all

In his own words he’s a socialite, audacious, comical, zealous and provocative. His day job involves marketing and front of house for Old Mutual Theatre on the Square. After hours ...he’s gossip king and celeb blogger. He’s Mika Stefano ... and here’s his take on what’s hot and what’s not this party season.

‘Every party must have an open bar! I’ve been to many amazing parties but one that stands out in particular was the annual Carnival at Taboo two years ago. Taboo is known for being this stuck-up pretentious kugel spot, but on this night it was far from it. There were two dance floors filled with sexy guests in the most colourful costumes ... I’m always afraid to go out and be bounced for wearing sneakers, but on this night you could wear anything and do anything. There were girls in swimming costumes made from flowers and boys in shorts, and the music was proper Brazilian carnival music. It was by far one of the most memorable parties I’ve been to, despite the fact I wore hot pants!

‘Sadly there are a few events I don’t enjoy, like a recent birthday dinner I went to ... it was a surprise dinner, the party princess arrived three hours late and the evening was filled with posing and pretentious chit-chat.

‘Must-have guests at your event include people who like to dance and have fun ... people like TV and radio personalities Bonang and Liezel van der Westhuizen, socialite Khanyi Mbau and 5fm presenter Anele Mdoda.

‘The best Joburg party venues are Latinova (it’s been one of the best party venues all year round), INC, Roseboys, Moloko, The Bank, Simply Blue and Lemon8/Citrus Lounge in Selby. I’m also looking forward to partying at the newly renovated Taboo.’
